South is the dealer and holds 7 diamonds and 12 HCP’s + 3 length points in diamonds – = 15 opening points) – also holds 3 HEARTS; 2 spades and 1 club
(YOU) South OPENS – 1 ♦️
West – PASS
North – one HEART ❤️ (holding 5 hearts and 15 points)
East – PASS
——————————————————–
SOUTH – 2 ♦️ – minimum hand holding at least 6/7 diamonds and no 4 card ❤️ SUIT
WEST – PASS
NORTH – bids 2 SPADES (has only 3 spades
– this is called a fragmented suit)
North needs a FORCING BID – and holds 5 hearts, 3 spades, 3 diamonds and 2 clubs
– if North rebids hearts it would show a six card suit!!!
East – PASS
SOUTH – NOW!!!!!!!!!
SOUTH BIDS 3 ♥️ ********
THIS IS CALLED A DELAYED RAISE AND SHOWS THREE HEARTS — IF NORTH HAS A FIVE CARD HEART SUIT – they are good to go game or slam
Once SOUTH SHOWS 3 HEARTS, If North has only the expected 4 hearts, North can support diamonds – knowing SOUTH HAS AT LEAST 6 DIAMONDS AND 3 HEARTS & therefore short in spades and clubs.
NO TRUMP WOULD BE A DISASTER!!!!!
A DELAYED RAISE OF RESPONDER’s SUIT SHOWS 3 card support not 4!!!!!
This is how you find out if your partner, the opener, has three card NOT 4 card support for your major. If OPENER HAD 4 card support – the only question would be to IMMEDIATELY show support and opening hand strength (now adding DUMMY POINTS)
a MINIMUM 12-15;
A MEDIUM 16-18 OR
A MAXIMUM 19-21

Thank you Marg. I am finding this very helpful. Are you in Florida yet? We have been here since Nov 1.
